Wow! 14 positive Covid-19 cases, MotoGP Portugal cancelled?

The Portimao Circuit, Portugal is in danger of being canceled as a MotoGP venue on November 20-22 2020 after the discovery of 14 positive cases of the Coronavirus after the Formula 1 GP some time ago.

Actually, the Portuguese GP This season is the first time it has been held since last 2012. However, the organizers did have the right to cancel the event because of the discovery of a Covid-19 case with 14 people among members of the Formula 1 teams.

Previously, it should be noted that the Formula 1 GP was held at the end of October at the Portimao Circuit, the same circuit that will be used in the Portugal GP series on 22 November.

This series then attracted enthusiasm from MotoGP fans around the world. This is because the Portimao Circuit is a universal circuit that has also been used to host WorldSBK.

However, the increase in the number of Corona virus cases in Formula 1 after the race on the track took place made local health authorities worried.

Sapo Desportipo reported on last Friday (30/10) that the Portuguese government did not rule out the possibility of canceling the Portuguese MotoGP.

As is well known, the F1 GP Portugal itself was held with spectators present, but without proper health protocols, because fans did not obey the recommendation of physical distancing even though they used masks.

Well, the same as Formula 1, later the Portuguese MotoGP at the Portimao Circuit is also planned to present an audience. In fact, all tickets were sold out.

However, with the increasing growth rate of Covid-19 cases, the policy could be withdrawn. In other words, the Portuguese GP will not be able to be attended by spectators.

“The evolution of this pandemic means that all preventive measures, along with any title, will continue to be evaluated, and all decisions will be made based on the evolution of the pandemic and what will happen in the next few days,” said Secretary of State Health Diogo Serra Lopez.

Yes, compared to the MotoGP title having to be canceled, it seems that the option of continuing to hold a race at that circuit without the presence of an audience is the best option at this time.

Moreover, considering the fact that this is the first time the Portuguese GP has been held since the last time in 2012.
