Will it be Brazil or Switzerland?
Team Brazil has everything on stakes here at the Rostov Arena in the Group E match against Switzerland. After suffering a shocking loss to Germany in World Cup 2014 in their own homeland, Brazilian fans should be expecting to see some kind of a miracle to wipe away those nightmarish memories.
Switzerland is a team which performs best when given responsibility in spite of not being able to enthrall the global audience. Their star, Xherdan Shaqiri is capable of weaving magic when the ball is on his left foot. Veteran Yann Sommer as the goalkeeper and captain Stephan Lichtsteiner at right back give the side oodles of experience. Defender Ricardo Rodriguez is a specialist in a dead ball. There is a big question mark on the goal scorer of the team. Haris Seferovic is the only striker, but he is not consistent. If he does not make a place in the team, then who the scorer will be, is a guessing game.
The team looks very formidable and strong, with the players belonging to the big 5 leagues, but if we do a reality check, then there are many loopholes in it. The way they lost to Portugal is proof enough.
For Brazil, forward Neymar Jr is at the peak of his career. He has been a threat always and is constantly improving. If he keeps his cool, then the cup can adorn his squad’s head. Midfielder Paulinho from Barcelona has cemented his place yet again. Debutant Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City has proven that he is a good a center-forward, with 7 goals.
The Brazilians are good, but they have not yet faced tough opposition till the day. Also, the fact that there is no permanent captain can be a negative thing playing in their minds.
Going by their previous match statistics, Brazil gave away 3 goals in their earlier 10 matches. In the recent 2 games against Switzerland, they conceded only 2 goals. Switzerland too has not been generous when it comes to conceding goals. In the previous 10 games that they played, they gave 4 goals and in the last 2 games against Brazil, they conceded just 2 goals.
Brazil had an appalling exit in their prior world cup, and they need to get some things going for them seriously. Otherwise, the squad of Switzerland will play doom to Brazilian hopes. 17th June will let us know the result.
