Uruguay Is All Set To Change The Course The Game This Summer

Uruguay is placed in the Group A and they are one of the very first ones to start off the FIFA World Cup 2018 this hot summer. Oscar Tabarez, who is coaching the team since 2006, is wheelchair bound since 2016 after suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome but he is the one who has helped the team win the Copa America cup in 2011. Under him, the Uruguay team has been the finalists for 3 back to back times in 2010, 2014 and 2018.

Although the veteran stars of Uruguay are showing signs of rust, the current lot of players that have emerged are shining brightly and need the right kind of platform to showcase their talent. The defender from Atletico Madrid, Diego Godin will be leading a team from the front. He will be supported by Luiz Suarez and Edinson Cavani in the upfront and the pair might start the game in a traditional 4-4-2 format. Godin along with Jose Maria Geminez will be starting in central defense.

Suarez is the squad’s most precious weapon and the biggest hope. The immensely talented and frequently caught between controversies star is a top goal scorer of the country playing his 3rd world cup and probably his last too. Suarez wants the world cup to be his, after what happened in Brazil, 2014. Cavani too is good in attacking lines in association with Suarez and the duo with Godin, are the stalwarts who need to take up maximum responsibility.

The other midfield members Cristian Rodriguez (from Penarol), Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino, Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur and Gaston Ramirez from Sampadoria would be taking care of the midfield and shielding the back four.

The goal keeping might go to Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera being a top contender. Others to vie for the position are Martin Silva from Vasco da Gama club and Martin Campana from the Independiente club.

Debutants Federico Valverde and Rodrigo Bentancur are the 2 midfielders bringing in quality and control in the game and changing the game aspects for better. They seem to begin a revolutionary change to the team. It would be interesting to watch the other young players like Nahitan Nandez, Gaston Pereiro, Maxi Gomez, Federico Ricca, Guillermo Varela and their contribution to the team’s success.

The group also includes Russia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which looks easy on paper but the reality is far from it.
