UEFA officially announced the postponement of Champions League and Europa League

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, eventually the UEFA took a fairly firm preventive measure. They officially suspended the Champions League and Europa League.

Increasingly, the Corona Virus Outbreak is increasingly worrying. There have been many international agendas that have to be postponed because of this outbreak. Italian Serie A itself has officially suspended their competition until next April.

Then in France, Ligue 1 will continue to roll, but without the presence of spectators. While in the UK, a meeting was still held regarding the current situation. The reason is, there are already two players there who are positively infected by Corona Virus.

Both are Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. In Italy, there are already two players who have been infected, including Daniele Rugani (Juventus) and Manolo Giabbiadini (Sampdoria).

Obviously this has reached a very serious phase. Moreover, Chelsea and Juventus also still play in the European Champions League.

Therefore, UEFA immediately held an unannounced meeting attended by its top brass. The meeting eventually led to the decision that the European Champions League and Europa League competitions would be suspended or postponed for a while.

No exception to the continued leg of the last 16 of the European Champions League, which originally planned to be held next week.

“Given the developments due to the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and related decisions made by different governments, all UEFA club competition matches scheduled for next week are postponed.”

“This includes the rest of the UEFA Champions League, Round of 16 second leg matches scheduled for March 17 and 18 2020; all UEFA Europa League matches, Round of 16 second round scheduled for March 19, 2020; all UEFA Youth League, quarterfinal matches scheduled for March 17 and 18 2020. ” Thus the official statement of UEFA.

Then, when will the competition be rolling again? UEFA cannot be sure, they will immediately announce it if indeed there is a definite decision.

“Further decisions about when this match will be communicated in due course.” He said.
