The Portugal Squad Is A Tough Nut To Crack This Summer
The 23 player squad of the Portugal team for FIFA World Cup 2018 has been announced and it is no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo would be leading from the front. The team’s former manager, Jose Mourinho believes that with Ronaldo, everything is achievable and they can aim for the stars. They hope to bring home the cup once again after the coach Fernando Santos has turned the team into a tough opponent.
Although a bit weak in the central midfield, Portugal still has a good number of supreme attacking players. Their exceptional wingers Andre Silva and Goncalo Guedes will be waiting for their chance to display their immense talents. If their performances are good, they might replace Nani and Quaresma in the future matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is well into his 30s, might be playing his last tournament. Surely, he would want to lift the cup and bid a memorable farewell to his illustrious career. It looks like Andre Silva will start with Ronaldo, Bernando Silva and Nani in the forward positions. Two among the trio, William Carvallho, Jao Mario and Jao Moutinho will most likely take the midfielder positions.
If Pepe is declared fit well before the start of the tournament, he would be the lead defender, along with the Fenerbahce club member, Luiz Neto. On the other hand, Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund) and Joao Cancelo (Inter Milan) are likely to take up fullback positions.
The goalkeepers expected to be included in the final 23-member squad are Rui Patricio, Anthony Lopes, and Jose Sa. If all goes well, Patricio from the Sporting CP club should bag the position.
The Pivotal Players
It has to be none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. The team has a strong defense line up without much chance to the opposing team. Ronaldo is the best goal scoring member who requires a minor slip up in the opponent team and he grabs his chance to win a goal for himself and his team. Along with Andre Silvag from AC Milan, the Portugal team’s forward position seems unbeatable and their partnership will play a vital role in the outcome of the game.
Portugal is in Group B, up against Spain, Morocco and Iran. Every football fan is eager to see what Ronaldo and his team has to offer in the world cup, to make it a memorable one.
