Suffering from a ligament injury, Pique absent until end of season
Barcelona had to take a bitter pill to hear the current condition of one of their mainstay defenders, Gerard Pique. The Spaniard suffered a serious ligament injury which forced him to miss for the next 8 months.
Gerard Pique himself started in the Spanish La Liga match against Atletico Madrid last weekend. Unfortunately, the 33-year-old defender could not play until the end.
In the 62nd minute, coach Ronald Koeman pulled out Pique because the defender suffered a serious injury. Sergino Dest then entered as his replacement.
After the match, the club was waiting for the results of Pique’s medical examination, the results revealed that the former Manchester United player had an ACL or Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury.
For information, the ACL injury is one of the most frightening injuries for football players. Barcelona itself did not reveal how long Pique would be out, but Pedro Luis Ripoll, Spain’s famous doctor, provided his analysis.
“There are two key parts, one is a nearly complete tear in the lateral internal ligament and the other, presumably, a tear in the anterior half of the cruciate ligament,”
“The first, the injury can be treated orthopedically, but the other one has a worse diagnosis. Return to the field depends on whether or not reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament is needed,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.
Furthermore, the doctor revealed that at worst, Pique would have to be absent for at least 6 months and a maximum of 8 months. That means, Shakira’s lover will have to end the 2020/21 season campaign early.
“If the injury does not show solidity in the knee and requires rebuilding, then he may have to be out for six to eight months,”
“If, on the other hand, there is no need or the damage to the internal ligaments is limited, it can be concluded that an estimate of three and a half months,” he concluded.
This news is clearly a slap hard for Barcelona, the fans also feel disappointed considering that Messi and his friends finally lost 0-1 to Atletico Madrid yesterday.
Pique himself is certain to miss the match against Dinamo Kyiev in the European Champions League in midweek tomorrow.
