Southgate asks Tottenham to make an exception for Kane in the Champions League Final

Gareth Southgate became a figure who forbade Tottenham to reduce Harry Kane to appear in the Champions League final this season. The reason from this England national coach was because the player had not fully recovered from an injury.

So far, Harry Kane has not shown any progress regarding his injury, even the player has been sidelined since the Champions League semi-final against Ajax some time ago. When Tottenham made sure they stepped into the final round, Kane promised to work hard so the injury would heal quickly.

Harry Kane wanted to play in the final match against Liverpool which will be held on Sunday (02/06/2019) at Wanda Metropolitano, Madrid. In response to Kane’s intentions, Gareth Southgate felt that it would be very bad and asked the club to play other players.

Gareth Southgate was not thinking of himself and the England national team, he saw another figure who is on fire when Harry Kane was injured. The players in question are Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min, who can be maximized optimally.

“You can’t force Harry Kane to play because they might feel that Lucas who scored a hat trick in the semifinals and Son played very well. Maybe Kane isn’t an impact player. So this is not a prelude to Mauricio Pochettino, I don’t know what he thinks about this situation. I think it will depend on what Harry Kane is doing in training,” said Southgate.

“It is not absolutely necessary. We must hear what the condition of [fitness] is after the match. Kane’s chances in the England national team are still very open, this situation is only an injury that will be cured,” said Southgate.

Southgate in a short time recently released a list of England national team squad that will compete in the UEFA Nations League. There were 27 players who were summoned by the 42-year-old manager, and from all the players they still had no guarantee because an evaluation would be held.

Opportunities to play Kane itself are pretty good even though they are still injured. Gareth Southgate added that regarding the status of the England captain, he is still awaiting certainty for Kane’s 100 percent fitness.

“We have to monitor two players how they will be next week, Harry Kane is one of the exceptions. Because, we will see the condition in the last week which is called to get a positive development, “concluded Southgate.
