Manchester City are considered as one of the candidates in the Premier League championship this season, apart from being a defending champions, the squad which is under direction of Pep Guardiola also looked convincing at the beginning of the season, occupying the standings. Regarding the opportunity to defend the Premiership title, as a striker Sergio Aguero acknowledged that it would not be easy, but he was sure Citizen could reach the target.
As is known, Manchester City won the English Premier League trophy again in the 2017/18 season campaign, where it was the 3rd Premier League trophy they won in the last decade. Under the direction of Pep Guardiola, Citizen did look convincing from the start, they even ended the competition with a 20-point lead over 2nd place, Manchester United.
Whereas at the beginning of this season, Citizen’s performance also looks very convincing, even though there isn’t much new ammunition that they brought in last summer’s transfer market. By relying on more or less the same players as last season, Citizen collected 30 points from 12 matches that have taken place and sit at the top of the standings. No wonder, if they are considered as one of the favorite champions in this season.
The fact is that it’s not easy for any team to retain the Premier League title, even in the past decade, only Manchester United’s Ferguson era can record this. Regarding this, striker Sergio Aguero admitted that it would be very difficult to defend the Premier League title, but he was confident of the opportunities that Manchester City had.
“It’s not easy to win the Premier League title again, do it twice in a row. But in the dressing room I saw the same energy, the same attitude as last season in my teammates, and that made me confident. So if we continue to do the same thing, stay focused, I think we have a great chance to win it in a row. ”
“We know our playing style, how to suppress, build attacks and all movements because we have played together for a long time, and we have players who are almost the same as last season. It depends on us, and if we are able to maintain focus on the target, we can make it happen,” told this 30-year-old player to Sky Sports.
