Ronald Koeman confirms Barcelona need a new striker
Barcelona currently has several attackers including Antoine Griezmann. However, the new coach Ronald Koeman admits that his team still lacks players in the number 9 position, aka Central Striker.
Over the last few years, the Catalan giants have always relied on Luis Suarez in this position. Unfortunately, this summer the club has let go of the Uruguayan player to the rival club, Atletico Madrid.
Suarez’s departure also left a “hole” in the Barcelona squad. Coach Ronald Koeman had experimented with reducing Antoine Griezmann to this position.
The solution was considered successful, as seen from the results of the match in the first round of Spanish La Liga against Villarreal last weekend which resulted in a 4-0 victory.
However, coach Ronald Koeman cannot deny the fact that his team still needs a new striker. This is because the tactician needs another option.
“It would be great if we had other strikers so we could work out other plans,” Koeman told Goal International.
Koeman cannot deny that Barcelona could appear without player number 9. It’s just that the former Everton coach thinks the presence of the number 9 striker can make him apply more varied tactics at Barcelona.
“It is true that we can play without strikers, and we are currently working on how to swap positions and how we can go deeper. But what is more important is that we have other options.” He said.
The hope of the tactician, the new striker can be brought in by club management as soon as possible considering the 2020/21 season campaign has rolled on.
“We are working on the transfer, and we hope we can get the number nine.” he said.
For information, this summer Transfer Window will end on October 5. This means, less than a week away, for that reason club management must move quickly in order to recruit new strikers.
Reportedly, Barcelona has pocketed two names of their players, namely Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan) and Memphis Depay (Olympique Lyon). Between the two players, the Catalan giants are said to be more likely to get Memphis Depay services.
