Rhys Williams determined to lock a place in Liverpool’s first team
One of Liverpool’s young defenders, Rhys Williams immediately performed nicely on his first chance to start midweek yesterday. Following that, he is now determined to secure a place in the core squad for the Reds.
Yes, Rhys Williams appeared from the first minute in the 3rd matchdays of the European Champions League Group phase against Atalanta on Wednesday morning WIB yesterday (04/11).
In this match, Rhys Williams not only completed Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but also performed nicely by helping the team to record Cleansheet, where Liverpool won by a landslide score of 5-0.
That said, Williams got this opportunity following the injury that Virgil Van Dijk was experiencing.
Related to this, Williams himself admitted that from the start he really wanted the opportunity to play in the Liverpool first team. However, he never thought he could get the rare opportunity to start as a starter.
“Yes, I was hoping for a chance, but I didn’t expect it to be this good!” Williams said on the club’s official website.
Williams admits that he is delighted to have the great trust of Jurgen Klopp, his determination now is to repay that trust and make people feel proud of him.
“I’m happy the boss trusts me and I will continue to repay his trust with performances and nights like this, so I hope I continue to have opportunities and continue to make everyone proud,” he added.
Not getting there, Rhys Williams was even determined to make coach Jurgen Klopp confused about determining the starting line-up when Van Dijk had recovered later.
In other words, the 19-year-old defender wants to lock up a place in Liverpool’s first team, even though he knows it won’t be easy.
“I want to be an irreplaceable part of this team. It’s a great team with great players,”
“I know it will be difficult but I am ready to try, keep training and hopefully continue to show good form when I get the chance,” he said.
Seeing his slick performance in the match against Atalanta yesterday, it is likely that Rhys Williams will be relied on again in the match against Manchester City tomorrow.
