Replace Dovizioso at Ducati, Pecco Bagnaia determined to bring back the glory
Rider VR46 academy graduate Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia admitted that he was very happy with the agreement with Ducati Corse to replace Andrea Dovizioso starting the next 2021 season.
For information, Ducati had indeed been confused about finding a mainstay rider for next season’s campaign after Andrea Dovizioso continued to refuse the new contract extension they offered.
After being linked with a number of names, finally the Italian manufacturer chose Francesco Bagnaia alias Pecco Bagnaia to be their rider next season.
Obviously this is very encouraging news for Pecco Bagnaia who is a graduate of VR46 Academy. He felt honored by the opportunity because it had been his dream since he was a child.
“On Monday (28/9/2020) morning, Gigi called me, I didn’t expect it. What a beautiful moment, because I’ve always been a Ducati fan and having this good opportunity is very exciting,”
“Defending the factory Ducati team has been my dream for a long time, and getting this opportunity is an honor,” he said as quoted by Corsedimoto.
Furthermore, Bagnaia expressed his determination to bring Ducati back to glory in the Grand Prix event after having had minimal achievements in the last few years.
“The Ducati name must be raised. As a factory rider, it will be crucial to fight at the front. Now we have worked hard, but good results are always out of hand even though we are very fast.”
“We have to seek progress to make it more constant. We are not short on speed, we just have to be more focused, “he said.
Meanwhile, the agreement that has been reached means that Pecco Bagnaia will be a partner of Jack Miller in the Factory Team next season. Meanwhile, the position he left in the Pramac Racing Team will be replaced by Jorge Martin.
As for now, the Italian Rider is currently ranked 13th in the MotoGP standings. In that position, Bagnaia only recorded 39 points.
Although the figure is still low, the fact is that the rider suffered a leg injury and missed three races. He will return to the track at Le Mans, France, on 9-11 October.
