Petronas believes Franco Morbidelli would become a champion
The Petronas Yamaha SRT team is not only convinced of Fabio Quartararo’s chances in the MotoGP event this season, but they also voice the same support and belief in Franco Morbidelli.
Currently, the two riders of the Yamaha Satellite Team, Quartararo and Morbidelli are indeed on the right track in the race for the 2020 MotoGP title.
Quartararo himself is in 2nd place in the standings with only 14 points behind Joan Mir at the top. Meanwhile, Morbidelli followed in 4th position, 25 points behind the top.
With the fact that there are still three series remaining this season, it means that both Morbidelli and Quartararo have a chance to win at the end of the season.
Quartararo is more likely because of his position closer to the top of the standings. However, in terms of performance, Franco Morbidelli looks more convincing to penetrate the top of the season-ending standings.
For this reason, the Petronas Yamaha SRT Team Director, Johan Stigefelt, believes that Morbidelli can also become world champion this season.
“I really believe Franky can win the title, because we have seen the results, two wins and one second place. He’s made great progress with his crew, including Ramon (Forcada, crew chief).”
“They really fit in, but they didn’t make a lot of noise. They are like guns without sound, and I like that, “said Stigefelt.
Furthermore, Stigefelt felt that the fact that the public favored Quartararo instead made Morbidelli feel less pressure. This makes men from Italy able to race more freely without excessive burden.
He also believes that Morbidelli now only needs to maintain consistency, because in terms of performance there is nothing that needs to be addressed.
“Franky was more or less the underdog, then hit the mark and grabbed two victories in stunning fashion.”
