Suzuki Ecstar rider, Joan Mir, managed to grab the top of the standings from Fabio Quartararo. However, the person concerned does not boast about this, because according to him, there is no point in being at the top of the standings if in the end they still fail to become champions.
Joan Mir did appear terengginas this season, the rider from Spain won five podiums before the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend.
He managed to continue his slick performance at the Aragon Grand Prix by finishing 3rd fastest. Thanks to him, the Suzuki Ecstar racer managed to take the top of the standings from Fabio Quartararo. Now, he has collected 121 points or is 6 ahead of El Diablo.
Despite leading the standings, Joan Mir doesn’t necessarily feel proud. Especially with the fact that he still hasn’t even won the first ever win of the season.
According to the 21-year-old rider, it would be better if he became the leader at the end of the season.
“It’s nice to lead the standings, but I’d better lead after the last series. Currently, leading the standings is useless.”
“It’s nice to be in front, but mistakes can happen. The most important thing is that we got more points than our rivals for a good ranking in the table, “said Mir.
With four series remaining this season, Joan Mir only needs to maintain his position at the top. However, he is reluctant to play it safe, especially since he has never won this season.
“I think I’m the most consistent rider at the moment, so to be honest we can actually maintain the advantage we have.”
“But the reality is, I’m not going to face the next race just to keep the top of the table. That could be a big mistake, “he said.
Unless the race still leaves two series only and he is still at the top of the standings, maybe there will be a different strategy.
“In the last two races, then we’ll see where I am, and then we will make a special strategy,” closed Mir.
Currently, Quartararo is Joan Mir’s closest competitor in the remaining four series, while Dovizioso and Vinales meet the top four quota with a gap that is not far apart.
