Neymar regrets for not hitting Alvaro Gonzalez in the face
The conflict incident with Alvaro Gonzalez yesterday seems to still leave some frustration for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr. He regretted not punching the Marseille player in the face.
As is known, Paris Saint-Germain did face off against its rival, Marseille in Week 3 of the Ligue 1 season 2020/21, Monday morning WIB (14/09).
In the match that took place at the Parc Des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain was beaten with a final score of 0-1. The only goal came in the 31st minute from Florian Thauvin’s action after receiving a pass from Dimitri Payet.
Obviously this is a disappointing result for the home team as well as the defending champions of the competition. But regardless of the final result, there is one thing that is in the spotlight, none other than the chaotic incident between the two players in the second half.
In fact, because of that incident the referee issued 5 red cards, 3 of which were for the home players, while 2 were for the Away team players.
In detail, the players who received a red card included Neymar, Marco Verratti, Layvin Kurzawa, Jordan Amavi, and Darino Benedetto.
Neymar, who claimed to have received racist treatment from Alvaro Gonzalez, sent a heavy slap to the back of the Marseille player’s head.
After the match, Neymar admitted that he did not regret it, what he regretted was not punching Gonzalez.
“My only regret is not punching the damn face,” Neymar wrote on his Twitter account.
However, in a separate interview after the match, Marseille coach Andre-Villas Boas denied that his players had committed acts of racism.
“I don’t think so, because Alvaro is an experienced player. There is no room for racism in football, but I don’t think that’s all,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur coach.
According to him, Neymar was only provoked by emotion because of the defeat of his team in the match. Things like this are considered normal considering the hot rivalry between the two teams from a long time ago.
“Neymar was a little annoyed by this situation at the end of the game. I hope it doesn’t interfere with this win. There was Angel Di Maria who spat on one of our players.”
“It was El Clasico and we have to remember this historic victory,” concluded Villas-Boas.
