The Holy Month of Ramadan is a long-awaited moment for Muslims around the world. There are some activities that are usually the hallmark of the Fasting Month, one of them is breaking the fast together or we called it ‘Bukber’.
However, this year”s Bukber activities in Indonesia cannot be carried out as in previous years. No other cause is the Coronavirus pandemic, which makes people unable to gather together in one room or dining table.
Of course, this ban does not only exist in Indonesia, but also in many other countries that apply lockdown rules.
In Indonesia itself, the Minister of Religion, Fachrul Razi through a circular letter of Ramadhan Worship and Eid al-Fitr 1441 Hijri asked for a joint meal and the Bukber to be cancelled, in order to break the chain of the spread of Covid-19 Virus.
Well, unlike in Indonesia, Dubai as the Capital of Qatar apparently still allows its citizens to hold an iftar together.
However, there are several requirements that must be met. The Dubai Crisis and Disaster Management Committee said that a person may hold a home event with no more than 5 people present, and must consist of family or close associates.
Meanwhile, for bukber events held outside the home, it is only permitted if it does not exceed 30 percent of the maximum capacity of the restaurant or dining venue. In addition, this event is also limited in terms of time, only allowed a maximum of 2 hours.
“This decision was made based on the positive impact of prevention efforts over the past few weeks,” wrote the Dubai Crisis and Disaster Management Committee posted by the official Dubai Media Office Twitter account.
In fact, not only the Sahur and Iftar together are prohibited, but some other religious activities such as tarawih prayer in the mosque, tadarus, and so on if not permitted. In fact, Fardhu’s routine such as Friday Prayers also has been cancelled temporarily.
Of course, it is unfortunate, but so far it has indeed become the best way to break the chain of the increasingly massive Coronavirus spread. In Indonesia alone, the number of Covid-19 cases continues to increase, as of today it reaches more than 9 thousand people.
