Mourinho Wants Spurts To Focus On The European League
Tottenham Hotspur coach, Jose Mourinho, admitted that it seems difficult for Harry Kane and the team to reach the European Champions League next season by finishing in the top four of the Premier League final standings, so he is determined to focus on the Europa League.
The results achieved by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League were not ideal, they even beat West Ham United with a final score of 1-2.
The defeat also extended the Lily Whites’ poor Premier League record, where they previously lost four of their last five league outings. As a result, this fifth defeat made Spurs even more scattered in 9th place in the standings.
In other words, Tottenham Hotspur is getting away from the top four of the standings, and this is admitted by Jose Mourinho, that his team will have difficulty penetrating the top four at the end of the season
“It’s very difficult to think of the top four. Four, five, top six teams, they get points. It will be very, very difficult, “Mourinho told Sky Sports.
It is for that reason that the Portuguese coach has the idea that his team will focus entirely on the Europa League, which will be another alternative to playing in the European Champions League next season.
“The Europa League is a tremendous motivation. It’s not easy, but big motivation because it can be a way to get a Champions League place as well as a trophy, “he said.
Actually if we were talking about the distance between the top four and Tottenham Hotspur, mathematically there is still a chance to reach it at the end of the season. However, The Special One just needs to think realistically.
“It’s still mathematically possible. Whenever possible it’s mathematically realistic. It’s very difficult, but mathematically possible.”
“You also need a little luck sometimes to support you. I’m sure if this team wins a few games in a row, the situation can change, and we can still fight for the top four,” he continued.
In the Europa League, Tottenham are almost certain to step into the last 16 after a 4-1 victory in the first leg against Wolfsberger AC.
