Maverick Vinales admits mistake for ignoring advice to use latest brake system
Monster Energy Yamaha Team Rider Maverick Vinales finally admitted his mistake for ignoring Brembo’s advice to use the latest brake system on the YZR-M1 ride at Styria .
The 4th and 5th series MotoGP this season was held at the same circuit, Red Bull Ring, Austria. In the 4th series race, the riders complained of the same problem, overheating during the braking process.
Due to these complaints, Brembo then implemented improvements and improvements for the next series of races. All riders use the same system, except for Maverick Vinales.
He refused the change because he felt the braking system on the YZR-M1 worked well in the previous series. But what happened was fatal, he admitted that he had felt an overheating problem since the previous lap, but still forced himself to continue racing.
“In the previous racing week, I used the usual brake system, because it worked really well.”
“I had a lot of laps behind the other riders and I didn’t have any problems. I also tried a new brake caliber and I had a problem, “he said as quoted by Corsedimoto.
On Lap 17, the brakes on Vinales’ ride overheated and finally exploded. He immediately removed himself from his ride and did not suffer serious injuries, even though his motorbike was destroyed by fire from hitting the parapet.
As a result of this action, Maverick Vinales received criticism from various parties, including other riders such as Alex Rins. According to them, his self-imposed attitude could endanger other riders.
The Spaniard confirmed that he had no intention of harming other riders, but still admitted that his decision to continue racing was wrong.
“It’s clear I don’t want to put anyone at risk. But it’s all my fault, because I don’t want to give up and want to get as many points as possible.”
“But I kept going until my brakes broke. The bearings are completely gone. I should have stopped earlier, “concluded Vinales.
The race was stopped, because of the incident, then it continues back.
