Maradona: Messi won’t be able to match me
Moving to Napoli does not appear to be one of Lionel Messi’s agenda in the future, but if it is true he moves to the Italian club, Maradona will be very happy. It’s just that this great Argentinian legend believes that Messi will not be able to match his achievements in Napoli.
Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona are often juxtaposed with each other so far. The reason, because the two figures have a style of play that is almost similar and so ‘sticky’ with the ball.
Once, Diego Maradona was able to impress the public with his actions while defending the Argentine National Team. Including when dealing with England in the 1986 World Cup. Maradona was able to get past five opposing players before scoring goals.
Interestingly, Messi scored a very similar goal when playing for Barcelona in the match against Getafe in 2007. Since then, Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona have often been compared to each other by football connoisseurs.
Both of them might be both great figures, both of whom came from Argentina. But the difference is, Messi spent almost his entire career with Barcelona, while Maradona played for Napoli.
On Wednesday (26/02), Messi and Barcelona had the opportunity to visit the San Paolo Stadium to face host Napoli in the first leg of the last 16 of the European Champions League. At the party, Messi did not move. Along with it, Barcelona can only 1-1 draw.
Long before, Messi was rumored to be leaving Barcelona. Now, if he joins Napoli, Maradona believes Messi will not be as successful as he is.
“Messi did not live life like me. Leo can play amazingly in Naples, but he won’t be able to make what I’ve done,” he told the United States.
Even so, the owner of the Hand of God still hopes that Messi could try his luck with Napoli career.
“I hope that Neapolitans can have a Messi, even though San Paolo has been negotiated,” concluded the 59-year-old figure.
The Barcelona still has a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals. The second leg match will take place on March 18, 2020.
