Manchester City won’t buy any players in January transfer market

Manchester City‘s performance in the first half of this season is unstable, even last weekend they were held to a draw against Newcastle United which makes the club increasingly behind from the top of the standings. Normally, this situation forces Citizens to recruit new ammunition on the occasion of the 2020 January winter transfer market.

Actually, in the transfer market last summer, Manchester City were quite active, they recruited six new players. However, there are only two that require large transfer funds, namely Rodri and Joao Cancelo. Strangely, Citizen did not buy a defender who could replace Vincent Kompany at the heart of the defense.

Related to this decision, coach Pep Guardiola had said that the player’s material was sufficient to navigate four different events. Then, at the start of the season, Manchester City was hit by news of a severe injury suffered by the defender, Aymeric Laporte. As a result, the club lacks a defender’s stock, but the manager is still strong in his words.

Unfortunately, what happens on the pitch is not comparable, Manchester City is difficult to approach the top of the Premier League standings. They are still stuck in 3rd place with 11 points behind Liverpool at the top. However, when asked about shopping opportunities in January, Pep’s answer was still the same.

It’s just that, the decision to be passive in the transfer market next winter is not because they are reluctant to shop, but the players he wants are not sold.

“If we can’t do it in the summer, we can’t do it in January. Players who we think are interesting to add to our squad, the club doesn’t want to sell,” Guardiola said as quoted by The Sun.

Not yet known, who is the player referred to by Pep Guardiola, could be he is Leonardo Bonucci, who has long wanted the manager.

That is, Manchester City must stay with the existing squad, and Laporte’s absence makes Pep have to play Fernandinho as a defender, out of his original position as a midfielder. The Brazilian player is predicted to return as a defender as long as Laporte is still recovering.

The situation is also made worse by the absence of Sergio Aguero, as the Argentina striker is currently injured.
