Liverpool legend admits MU is the candidate to win Premier League
After seeing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troops perched comfortably at the top of the standings, Jamie Carragher as a Liverpool legend finally admitted that Manchester United now deserves to be reckoned with as a candidate for the 2020/21 Premier League season.
Indeed, the Red Devils at the start of this season looked a little limping and tended to be inconsistent. But getting here, their performance is increasingly stable, until they finally managed to win the top of the standings.
Whereas Liverpool, on the other hand, Jurgen Klopp’s troops had appeared consistent but recently their performance has decreased. In fact, the Reds have never won in the last five Premier League matches.
Most recently, Liverpool were even defeated by Burnley in a match that took place at Anfield in the morning WIB.
The defeat has made Liverpool stuck in 4th place in the standings, they are six points adrift of Manchester United who sit comfortably at the top.
According to Jamie Carragher himself, what has looked like this season is very different from last season. In that sense, the competition for the championship ladder this season is much more competitive, compared to when Liverpool didn’t seem like they had competitors last season.
“We want to see other teams closer to Liverpool because we need it to be more competitive than last season.”
“From a Liverpool perspective, it was great to win the league the way they did last season, but you want to see a competitive title race and we didn’t really get it last season,” he told Goal.
Seeing what Manchester United have shown so far, Carragher who works as a British football pandit then thinks that the Red Devils will compete in the title race with Manchester City and Liverpool.
“One week you feel United are coming out of it, then two weeks later they are on top. The Spurs are there for a while. Chelsea have had moments when they looked threatening,” he said.
“For me, it will still be between City and Liverpool at the end of the season, but Man Utd has put themselves in the competition,” said Carragher.
Meanwhile, MU who are at the top are caught by Manchester City and Leicester City, who respectively sit in second and third positions with only two points gap.
