Liverpool Is A Candidate To Win Champions League? This is Klopp’s Answer
Jurgen Klopp has spoken about some people who believe that his squad is one of the candidates to win the European Champions League this season. How did the German coach respond?
Even though it looks inconsistent in the Premier League, in fact Liverpool are actually fighting in the European Champions League.
That said, they won tickets to the quarter-finals of the annual tournament quite easily. Faced with RB Leipzig in the two legs of the last 16, the Reds won 2-0 wins in each of these legs.
Long short story, Liverpool managed to advance to the quarter-finals 4-0 on aggregate. So it is natural that the public then thinks that the Reds are one of the strong candidates to win the European Champions League this season.
Klopp himself emphasized that of course the European Champions League title is one of his team’s main targets in the 2020/21 season.
“The main reason we take part in this competition is to win this tournament,” Klopp was quoted as saying by Sportsmole.
However, about the chance or confidence to become champions, repeating the success of two seasons ago, Klopp emphasized that his team would not delude further. In terms of performance, the man from Germany said that his team was still far from the championship trophy.
“We are not stupid enough to hope to win the Champions League. Because so far we can’t seem to win the Champions League,” he said.
Indeed, apart from Liverpool there are many strong teams who have won tickets to the quarter-finals, such as Paris Saint-Germain and others.
Klopp emphasized that Liverpool are ready to face any team in the quarter-finals, because every opponent will be a difficult opponent in that round.
But before that, the former Dortmund coach made sure that Liverpool’s focus was on the duel against Wolverhampton in the English Premier League.
“For now we have to wait for the results of the draw for the quarter-finals. I’m sure whoever our opponents are, we will have a difficult match,”
“We also can’t think too far there. We have to think about facing Wolves,” he said.
The plan, the draw for the quarter-finals will be held by UEFA on 19 March.
