Left Barcelona, Luis Suarez officially joined Atletico Madrid

After about a month passed, Luis Suarez finally left Barcelona. The Uruguay National Team striker officially joined a rival club, Atletico Madrid.

In fact, the news of Suarez’s departure from Camp Nou has been heard since the last few weeks. The news about his departure was related to the arrival of new coach Ronald Koeman. Luis Suarez was not included in the Dutch tactician’s plan.

Initially, the former Liverpool player was believed to be anchored in Italy and playing with the Serie A giants, Juventus. Unfortunately, the issue of citizenship has closed Suarez’s chances of playing in Italy.

As such, El Pistolero will have to look for another goal, as staying at Barcelona does not appear to be a good option for the 33-year-old striker.

In the end, Barcelona announced that the Uruguay striker would join one of their rivals, Atletico Madrid.

In their official statement, the Catalan giants also said that Atletico Madrid had paid six million euros for the Uruguay striker.

“FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Luis Suarez. The club from Madrid will pay FC Barcelona six million euros in various variables,” wrote a club statement via the official website.

Unfortunately, neither Barcelona nor Atletico Madrid have detailed details regarding Suarez’s contract agreement at his new club. However, Marca reported that Los Rojiblancos bind Suarez with a contract worth nine million euros.

Thus, Suarez’s journey with Barcelona has ended, which lasted since 2014. Since being bought from Liverpool through a pocket of no less than 80 million euros, Uruguay players have recorded extraordinary statistics.

He managed to score 198 goals in 283 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. With this contribution, Suarez led the Catalan giants to win 13 trophies including the Treble winner in the 2014/15 season.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s decision to recruit Luis Suare was inseparable from the departure of their striker, Alvaro Morata, who chose to return to the embrace of his former Juventus.

In other words, Suarez will replace Alvaro Morata at Atletico Madrid.
