Koeman: Barcelona are not favorites to win the Spanish Super Cup
Ahead of the match against Real Sociedad in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, coach Ronald Koeman said that his team were not the favorites to win, even though they are currently in good form.
For information, the Catalan giants will indeed face Real Sociedad in the semi-final which will be held in Cordoba on Thursday morning WIB (14/01).
Ahead of the match, Messi et al can be said to be in a positive trend. They are unbeaten in the last eight matches in all competitions with details of six of which ended in victory.
Naturally, this positive trend has made the Catalan giants to win, even to win the Spanish Super Cup this year.
But interestingly, coach Ronald Koeman tried to be modest by saying that his team’s positive trend would not have much effect on the next meeting.
“I don’t think so. It doesn’t depend on the team’s performance lately,” Koeman was quoted as saying by Marca.
Especially if you look at the opponents, where Real Sociedad has recently shown good performance and according to him they are one of the best teams in La Liga in the first half of this season.
“Real started La Liga well. I have seen some of their games and for me they are like one of the best teams in the league,” he added.
If not Barcelona, then who according to Koeman is the favorite in this year’s Spanish Super Cup? He considered that all of the four contestants had an equal chance of becoming champions if you saw the quality that each team had.
“For me there is no clear favorite to win the Supercopa. The four participating teams have the mentality of doing their best to win the title. The four of us have a chance, just like us,” said Koeman.
However, the Dutch coach does not deny that Barcelona are determined to continue their positive trend when facing Real Sociedad later.
“We want to continue the image we have shown lately. The team is growing. This is an opportunity to show that we are on a good track.” he said.
