Liverpool’s tactician, Jurgen Klopp spoke about how his team successfully gained full points in the inaugural European Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. This German coach admitted that Neymar was a weak spot for the French Ligue 1 defending champions, following a tactical change by Thomas Tuchel.
As is known, Liverpool faced Paris Saint-Germain in the first match of the European Champions League Group phase this season. The Super Big Match took place at Anfield Stadium on Wednesday morning (09/20) local time.
From the start, these two teams demonstrated the style of playing fast and not surprisingly, the exchange of attacks occurred from the first minute, with Liverpool recording more opportunities in the match. Both teams almost drew 2-2, fortunately Liverpool, who played as the hosts then successfully won full points thanks to the winning goal scored by Brazilian striker, Roberto Firmino at the end of the match.
After the match, Jurgen Klopp claimed to be very happy with this result, and spoke little of the victory over the defending champions. According to him, PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel has changed his tactic system by lowering Neymar in the left sector.
That position forced Neymar to often go down to help the defense, and according to Klopp, the Brazilian star was not very good at helping his team’s defense.
“They changed the system, we had expected that but not thinking too much about it, Neymar on the left side was not a bad idea and it was more difficult for the defense, but we needed more focus and we felt very good.”
“We covered a large area and closed the gap and when holding the ball we made them run and use the right wing. Neymar is a world class player, but he is not a defender, so we are trying to implement that tactic,” told Klopp to BT Sport after the match.
