Team Argentina have come up with their expected player’s list who would be making their presence felt in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Eight-star players have been given the cold shoulder this time. Coach Jorge Sampaoli, who was preferred by Lionel Messi himself along with a few other senior players, took up the job of coaching in the middle of the world cup qualifying rounds. We need to see to see if this decision yields the desired result or no for the Argentinean team.
In spite of going through some hiccups for qualifying in the world cup, the team finally made it to the tournament, and the credit goes to the coach. Samapoli has been with the team for not more than 1 year but the squad looks stronger than ever, at all positions.
The area of goal keeping is one concern that needs to be addressed. As of now, Sergio Romero from Manchester United stands a good chance to keep the position for himself. Two others running the race for goalkeeping are Tigres’ Nahuel Guzman and America’s Agustin Marchesin. Geronimo Rulli might be considered as the surprise element.
Gabriel Mercado from Sevilla is the preferred defender at right back, and Trabzonspor’s Emmanuel Mas can be considered for the left back position. Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi would be in the central defense along with Mateo Musachhio or Ramiro Funes Mori. Others that might make it are Javier Mascherano from Barcelona, Federico Fazio from Roma, German Pezzella from Fiorentina.
If Mascherano starts in the defensive mid field, then 2 among the trio of Lucas Biglia, Leandro Paredes, and Ever Banega would support him in a mid field. This also depends on the system that Argentina is going to adopt.
Messi is the captain and will begin on the right side of the 3 manned attack, either with Gonzalo Higuain or Sergio Aguero from Juventus and Manchester City respectively. On the left side, there is a tough competition between Paulo Dybala, Di Maria, and Angel Correa.
Dybala, although never played at the international level, is popular among the European crowd. He might be a sight to watch if given a chance since he plays in the same position as Messi. Correa is one more person on whom the team is having high-hopes in the future.
The experience of the coach and Messi’s play put together will decide the fate of this team, which has been passing through not so lively moments after losing 3 finals consecutively. Having been placed in a relatively easy group with Iceland, Croatia, and Nigeria, the tournament should prove good for Argentina.
