Ibra doubts will stay at AC Milan next season
This season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to be AC Milan’s flagship goal machine, helping the club to reach its target at the end of the season. However, Rossoneri fans are still excited because there is no guarantee the Swedish striker will stay at the San Siro next season.
Ibra himself has actually joined the Rossoneri since January 2020, when he was signed on a free transfer after his contract with LA Galaxy ended in December 2019.
Many have criticized Milan’s decision to sign a 39-year-old striker. However, Ibra himself silenced the critics through his actions and goals scored.
This season alone, the former Manchester United player has managed to score 14 goals in 11 Italian Serie A matches. Ibra’s role was quite crucial in the success of AC Milan to top the standings.
But what makes AC Milan fans still worried is the fact that the player’s contract will expire in the summer, while so far there has been no new contract agreement.
Paolo Maldini as AC Milan’s technical director admitted that until now the process of preparing for Ibrahimovic’s contract is still ongoing, but it all also depends on the player’s condition.
“We are one of the youngest teams in Europe and need a leader like Ibrahimovic. We tried to recruit him since 2018 while he was still playing at LA Galaxy,”
“He told me that the contract extension depends on his body, but if he stays like this, I don’t see a reason why he should stop playing,” Maldini told BeinSport.
AC Milan certainly wants Ibra to stay at the San Siro, but on the other hand they are also trying to extend the contracts of several other crucial players including the goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.
“We have three players whose contracts will expire, as well as players whose contracts will expire in 2022. We are working on that,”
“Of course there are groups who like to work together, the players are professionals who only think about the field, we hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible,” concluded Maldini.
