Harry Maguire still not fit to be MU’s captain

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand doubted the quality and suitability of a Harry Maguire being the current captain of Manchester United.

Currently, Manchester United is in the midst of a consistency crisis. This fact is also evident from how the results obtained by Ole GUnnar Solskjaer’s troops in the last few matches.

After winning big wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in the European Champions League, the Red Devils were beaten at home when they faced Arsenal last weekend.

There are some weak aspects to Solskjaer’s squad at the moment, but what is certain is a matter of consistency. The tactician seems to have difficulty leading his team to successive wins.

On the one hand, Harry Maguire, who was trusted to be the captain of the first team since the start of this season, did not seem to have a big impact on the team’s performance.

In fact, in a football team a captain has an equally important role as a coach.

Seeing his comments after the match against Arsenal yesterday, Rio Ferdinand seemed to doubt Maguire’s eligibility to captain Manchester United.

Instead of providing motivation, the captain admitted to his team’s defeat and shortcomings in the match.

“I watched Harry Maguire and some of his comments after the game, who said that maybe they were complacent too easily. It shouldn’t be, he’s the captain of the team,”

“I hope he can do better and say to his colleagues: ‘listen, we’re not done yet, we still have a lot to do, let’s show your passion’.” said Ferdinand quoted from Goal international.

Furthermore, Ferdinand looked back on his days when he was still playing. As he remembered, a captain would burn the spirits of his colleagues in the dressing room, whether it was before the game started or during the break.

“I don’t know what really happened. As MU captain, there is always a leader in the dressing room who will go around and burn the spirits,”

“Either in a one-on-one discussion or in front of the team. Pulling a colleague aside, talking to help him get up, to make sure they’re still focused.” continued Ferdinand.

As a result of the defeat to Arsenal, MU is now in 15th place in the standings, only collecting 7 points from 6 matches.
