Gundogan not follow Ozil into retirement from the National Team
Arsenal’s mainstay winger, Mesut Ozil, has officially decided to hang his boots from the International stage after finding criticism from a number of parties following a photo of him with Turkish President Erdogan. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who also posed in the photo, was initially believed to be following Ozil’s move, but the Manchester City player made sure he did not retire from the National Team.
As is known, over the past few weeks Ozil has indeed been the target of criticism, related to the spread of his photo when posing with Turkish President, Erdogan. Ozil stressed that it was just a normal photo because he met with the number one person in Turkey by accident at a charity event in the City of London.
However, most of the German people consider it as Political Propaganda, it is not surprising that the former Real Madrid player has been continuously criticized by a number of parties. In fact, he was made a scapegoat for the failure of the German National Team in the 2018 World Cup event yesterday. No wonder if a few days after the tournament ended, Ozil decided to retire from the international stage.
Whereas Ilkay Gundogan himself did not play in the 2018 World Cup yesterday because of injury, a Turkish blooded figure also posed with President Edorgan with Ozil, only that he was reluctant to follow the Arsenal player’s steps. There was also Gundogan, when asked about his biggest target at this time, through Intagram, Gundogan revealed he would continue to serve Germany, unlike Ozil who decided to resign.
“Winning the Champions League and at least presenting a trophy for the German national team,” Gundogan replied on his personal Instagram.
The German National Team, which is the defending champion of the competition, was surprisingly swallowed by two defeats from the three Group qualifying parties, having to be eliminated early as the first place in the standings.
