Gabriel Barbosa appeared to shine in Brazil along with Flamengo throughout 2019, he even inspired the club to win a number of prestigious titles. But this does not necessarily make Inter Milan interested in sending him back to the San Siro. It was confirmed by the club’s director, Beppe Marotta, that the 23-year-old player was included in the club’s selling list.
The figure who is familiarly called the Gabigol had indeed been predicted to be the world’s best player a few years ago, or since its emergence with Santos. He was then recruited by Inter Milan, but unfortunately his performance with the Nerazzurri was very far from expectations. Eventually, Gabigol was loaned back to Santos, then Flamengo.
Together with Flamengo, Gabigol actually performed brilliantly. Throughout this year 2019, he successfully recorded 34 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions, with the club brought him to the Brazilian Serie A championship as well as Copa Libertadores Champions. That is, Gabriel Barbosa escorted Flamengo to the Club World Cup event, he was certain to play in the event.
Inter, on the other hand, lacked front-line ammunition especially after the death of Alexis Sanchez who was injured and had just been eliminated from the Champions League. So it is natural that Gabigol’s moncer is linked to his return to the San Siro. However, Marotta insisted that there was no turning back for the 23-year-old Brazilian striker to Giuseppe Meazza.
He acknowledged that Gabigol is a great player, a talented and quality figure, but now the club already has many attacking options. So it is likely that he will be released on the occasion of the upcoming January 2020 transfer market.
“Gabriel Barbosa is a great player, but at the moment our front line is large and full of quality, consisting of Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Alexis Sanchez, Sebastiano Esposito and Matteo Politano. Gabigol is not included in our plan, but he has great value, “he told ESPN.
According to reports, Flamengo himself will buy Gabigol permanently in January. And one of the club’s top brass gave confirmation to the media recently.
