Finally leaving Juve, Sami Khedira chose to join Hertha Berlin
After being questioned, finally Sami Khedira’s future was answered. After his contract with Juventus ended in January, the German midfielder chose to return to the Bundesliga by defending Hertha Berlin.
The temptation of Sami Khedira and Juventus has actually been smelled since the beginning of this season, where the former Real Madrid star began to rarely play because his position was displaced by newer, younger players.
The Italian media have predicted that Khedira will only leave Turin in the transfer market this winter.
Well, considering the fact that the remaining contract is still there until next summer, Khedira then submitted a contract termination which was agreed by Juventus.
That way, Sami Khedira could join Hertha Berlin for free. At the club in the German capital, the 33-year-old has signed a six-month contract.
“Hertha Berlin recruited the owner of 77 caps with Germany and the 2014 World Cup winner from record holder Italian champions Juventus. The 33-year-old player will wear the jersey number 28,” reads an official statement from Hertha Berlin.
Sami Khedira himself admitted that he was very happy with this move, because after all Germany is his hometown. Now, the midfielder is looking forward to making his debut in the club’s proud jersey.
“Hertha Berlin offered me the opportunity to return to the Bundesliga. I’m grateful for that and to be honest I can’t wait to be on the pitch in the blue and white jersey,”
“I feel very good physically and with the experience I have gained over the last few years, I want to help the team and lead Hertha to even more success,” Khedira said on the club’s official website.
Sami Khedira himself joined Juventus in the summer of 2015 for free after his contract at Real Madrid officially ended.
At Juventus, the player of Tunisian descent has made 145 appearances scoring 21 goals. He helped the Bianconneri to a number of titles including five Scudettos.
Unfortunately, Sami Khedira is often hampered by recurrent injuries which inevitably force him to lose his place in Juve’s main squad.
