Fabio Quartararo pessimistic about the possibility of becoming world champion
The results in the last few series have made Petronas Yamaha SRT rider Fabio Quartararo feel insecure about his chances of becoming world champion this season.
For information, Fabio Quartararo did seize attention through his good actions in the first two series which took place in Jerez, Spain. The French racer won the two series.
However, in the 3rd series in Czech, he instead finished in 7th place, 8th in the 4th series in Austria, to make matters worse he finished 13th in the Styria series last weekend.
Indeed, this setback did not necessarily make El Diablo lose his position at the top of the standings. He still leads with 70 points, but the rider is starting to lose confidence.
The one highlighted by Quartararo is the YZR-M1 ridden by Yamaha riders. There were technical problems that occurred, especially in the Red Bull Ring series yesterday.
“Of course we are candidates for the championship, but I do not feel as confident as at Jerez. There, everything is okay, everything is going very well. But it looks like we got more problems and we are really struggling,” said Quartararo.
The 21-year-old racer admitted that the circuit in Austria was not friendly to Yamaha riders. However, finishing in 13th place is not a good sign, especially considering that last season he managed to get to the 3rd podium at the same circuit.
“It’s true that Austria is a difficult track for us, but last year I felt very comfortable riding and even finished third, on the podium. This year, in fact, the driving sensation is very different than last year,” he continued.
Now, Quartararo can only hope he will perform even better when he visits the Misano circuit.
“We ask Yamaha a lot of questions and we hope to get a lot of positive things at Misano. Obviously Misano will be a good track for Yamaha, but our problems will remain. We have to find a solution and work as well as possible,” he concluded.
At the top, Quartararo is just three points ahead of Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso.
