Edinson Cavani opens up about his relationship with Neymar

Even though he has officially left Paris Saint-Germain, Edinson Cavani is unlikely to forget the French club. The reason is, he made a number of memories there, including one that was less pleasant with the Brazilian star, Neymar Jr.

The memory took place in the match against Olympique Lyon in the 2017/18 season. On one occasion Paris Saint-Germain received a penalty from the referee, this is where there is a feud between Cavani and Neymar.

Neymar on the one hand is determined to be the executor, but Cavani is reluctant to give in, his mission to break Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goal record at PSG is no less big.

In the end the Uruguayan took the execution of the penalty but his shot was off the net. Neymar then gave a chuckle reaction.

Since then, the relationship between the two players is considered not getting along, especially when they are rarely seen together off the field.

Now, after officially leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the former Napoli player then spoke up about his relationship with Neymar.

“Neymar is a good person. The only time we have a problem, and everyone knows this, is in the game against Lyon. We had discussions in the dressing room, but it ended there,” said Edinson Cavani, quoted by ESPN.

However, the 33-year-old forward admits that he is not closely related to Neymar. Cavani considers being a teammate on the field not necessarily together when off the field, the most important thing is teamwork.

“Not everyone has to be friends or family in the squad. The important thing is to unite on the pitch, protect each other, compete with each other,” he added.

Many consider that the unfavorable relationship between Neymar and himself is the reason why it is difficult for PSG to go far in the European Champions League.

However, he emphasized that this did not affect anything at all, because when he was on the field he was on good terms with Neymar.

“You don’t have to go out to dinner together, what no less is respect and determination for your teammates,”

“It’s true, Neymar and I don’t share much, but that doesn’t prevent us from having a good and respectful relationship,” said Edinson Cavani.
