Conor McGregor must bear the shame of falling to Dustin Poirier in his comeback match on the UFC stage. The defeat also provoked Khabib Nurmagedov to sneer at the Irish boxer.
Previously, it should be noted that Conor McGregor has stated that he retired from the UFC world after the victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. However, at UFC 257 on January 24, McGregor returned from his retirement.
In that match, McGregor faced the American boxer, Dustin Poirier. In the first half, the two of them are buying and selling blows. But Poirier surprised McGregor by trying to get him into a wrestling fight.
The first round went well for McGregor, but it looked like he was only narrowly ahead of his opponent.
But the course of the match was different on the second run, in which Poirier seemed to change his tactics and attack McGregor’s legs more often, since then the 32-year-old appears to be affected.
Poirier also beat McGregor in a row. One of his right hand blows landed right in front of the 32-year-old and knocked him out.
Poirier himself continued to hit McGregor until the referee finally stopped the action. After that, Dustin Poirier was declared a TKO win over McGregor.
After the match, Khabib Nurmagedov seemed to sneer and at the same time insult McGregor. He said that McGregor should not have switched teams and faced opponents who were not at the same level.
“This is what happens, when you change teams, leave the sparring partner who made you champion and spar with little kids, far from reality.” Khabib wrote.
Interestingly, McGregor himself did not remain silent, he returned the scorn from Khabib.
“My team has been with me from day one. I didn’t change anything. That’s what it is. Respect for the athletes and that’s a definite male character, behind the mask. What a fool,” he said as reported by MMAFighting.
In fact, McGregor admits that he is ready to compete with Khabib again if the Russian boxer plans to make a comeback.
“What does he want to do? Does he want to come back or not? Because he doesn’t take the leg kick,” he exclaimed.
