Defeat to Manchester City, this is what Jurgen Klopp said…
Liverpool failed to maintain their 18-year record never losing to Manchester City at Anfield. Last weekend, the Reds were defeated with a score that was unmitigated, 1-4! So, how does Jurgen Klopp respond to this defeat?
Last season’s Premier League champions and runners-up meeting took place at Anfield on Sunday night WIB yesterday (07/02).
As predicted, the duel was fierce at first, but no goals occurred until the first half ended. In the second half, the story was very different, City first took the lead through Ilkay Gundogan’s goal.
Hosts Liverpool had responded with Mohamed Salah’s penalty, but unfortunately Alisson Becker’s fatal blunder made the visitors score two additional goals through Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan.
Towards the end of the match, Phil Foden confirmed the victory of Pep Guardiola’s troops, the match ended with a score of 1-4.
Obviously this defeat is embarrassing and disappointing for Liverpool who have never lost in the last 18 years of meetings at Anfield against City.
The public is busy criticizing the performance of Milner et al, but coach Jurgen Klopp is actually satisfied with his team’s performance.
“I saw a very good game and a big mistake. In every game, when you make a mistake like this, it’s almost certain you will concede a goal,”
“I think it’s easy to agree that the game in the first half was very good, the two teams tried to create problems for each other, and I really liked what I saw in this match,” Klopp told the BBC after the match.
The defeat made the top of the standings even further out of reach of Liverpool. Klopp himself is aware of this, but he is reluctant to criticize the performance of his players.
“Confidence can be reduced after the last game but tonight, I saw a team that is very confident. To be honest. I like the game we showed,” he added.
But clearly, Klopp understands very well that the team’s performance must be fixed immediately, there is still plenty of time considering the next match against Leicester City will only take place on Saturday.
