Carving more records, Buffon doesn’t want to be a role model

Very precise decision made by Gianluigi Buffon to continue playing despite being 42 years old. How come? This Italian legendary goalkeeper successfully set a new record because of his decision. Thanks to his performance in the match against Udinese yesterday, Buffon is now recorded to have played in 4 different Decades, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020.

As is known, Juventus faced Udinese in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia, Thursday morning WIB (16/01). The match was the first for Buffon this year, because in two previous matches in the Italian Serie A, Manager Maurizio Sarri fielded Wojciech Szczesny.

Thanks to his performance in the match, Buffon not only set a record as an active player playing in 4 different decades, but also equaled the record for most caps in Italy that Paolo Maldini had previously inscribed. In total, Buffon has made 647 appearances in the Italian Serie A event since his debut in 1996.

Nevertheless, the slick note does not necessarily make the legend big-headed. Buffon remains humble. In fact, he does not want to be a role model or role model for others, including for young players. The reason is because he does not want parents to put pressure on their children to achieve high achievements.

“I do not want to be a role model for children and people, it is not my aspiration, I do not feel the need to educate anyone. Many of you want me to take on this responsibility, but a child’s education depends on parents,” Buffon told reporters.

As for returning from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, so far Buffon has recorded 9 appearances in all competitions. While his debut in Serie A took place in the 1995-1996 season with costumed Parma. Buffon spent most of his career with Juventus.

He defended the Bianconneri for two different periods, from 2001 to 2018, then returned to Turin in the summer of 2019 until now. Interestingly, at the age of 42 years, the legend does not have plans to hang shoes.
