Can Sweden Spoil The German Party?
The game between Germany and Sweden is the second match of the tournament for both the teams. They are facing each other on 23rd June 2018 at the Fisht stadium. Both would be hoping for a victory prior to this encounter when Germany would have played Mexico while Sweden would have kicked off the tournament with South Korea.
In the present situation, Germany is the hot favorites at the FIFA world cup 2018 and naturally, they would not want that to change. For that reason, they would like to proceed further without any major hurdles. Sweden also would be having its eyes set on the final 16, hoping to conquer Italy and thereafter Germany.
The 2 sides have been seeing each other very frequently, and the last few matches between the 2 teams have been high-scoring ones. After 1942, Sweden never managed to win against Germany. Germany would try their best to retain the cup, and this fixture will give them confidence because of the past meeting s between the two.
For Germany, qualifying to the Russian world cup was a cakewalk. They topped their group in the UEFA and got all points in all their games. They showed a very good defense and gave away only 4 goals. They looked like a solid team back then.
Sweden was placed in a relatively tough group along with France and Netherlands. They did not the nurse any hopes of making it to Russia, but they edged out the Netherlands and also managed to squeeze a win against Italy. The sporting world was shocked and thus began their Russian journey.
Germany has all it takes to win the match. They have popular centre forward and good attackers who can prove costly for the Swedish team. The Swedes do not have a regular goal scorer, which is a matter of concern. Although Marcus Berg did a good job during their qualifying journey, does he have the potential and ability against the formidable German lineup, is something that raises an eyebrow.
The Swedes too have top quality players, but it is not at par with their German counterparts. Their main problem areas are in pace and implementation. Considering all this, everything screams that Germans will be the winners.
The million-dollar question is whether Germany will repeat their performance of the previous world cup or Sweden will put a halt on them.
