Bayern Munchen were “lucky” to win Champions League
The success of Bayern Munich in winning the European Champions League this season is due to luck, according to Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
As is known, the defending German Bundesliga champion has indeed reached the final of the European Champions League this season. At the top of the party, they faced Paris Saint-Germain.
In a match that was held in Lisbon, Portugal, Monday (24/8/2020) in the morning WIB, Hansi Flick’s troops managed to win by a thin score of 1-0. A single goal scored by Kingsley Coman led Bayern to their sixth Champions League title.
Not only that, thanks to this title, Bayern Munich also matched Barcelona’s score as a club with a collection of 2 treble winners. Previously Bayern had won the German Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.
Die Roten’s successful achievement is considered extraordinary, because the figure of Hansi Flick has only occupied the position of main coach since mid-season. He was initially appointed as caretaker after Niko Kovac was fired as manager.
However, because the team’s performance was much better, Hansi Flick was finally appointed as the permanent manager.
Talking about Bayern’s success, Klopp, who is a former Borussia Dortmund coach, said that the change in schedule and format due to the Covid-10 pandemic had little help to Bayern’s success.
“It’s difficult to write more history in eight months. However, they are a bit lucky because, despite all the scheduling fuss, their schedule is the most compatible with the Champions League,” Klopp told ZDF.
As is known, the Coronavirus pandemic has indeed delayed the European Champions League competition. Even because of that, the quarter-finals and semifinals only consist of one leg.
But regardless, Klopp still admits that Bayern deserve to be champions, because they have very good player material.
“I happily admit that Bayern for now are clearly a really top team in the world. They have sensationally incredible strength. They have world-class players in every position, and all at the right age,” he said.
Liverpool itself was only able to reach the last 16, they were eliminated by Atletico Madrid 2-4 on aggregate.
