Arteta’s claim: Arsenal could have won over Wolves

Arsenal tactician Mikel Arteta seemed very upset by the defeat suffered by his team in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers this morning. He considered that the Gunners should be able to win in this match.

The duel itself took place on Wednesday morning WIB (03/02) at Wolves headquarters. Initially, Arsenal managed to take the lead thanks to a goal scored by Nicolas Pepe in the 32nd minute.

But at the end of the first half, David Luiz received a red card from the referee, forcing Arsenal to play with only 10 people. Not only that, the referee also awarded a penalty to the home team which then changed the position to a 1-1 draw at dispersal.

Wolves seemed to really take advantage of the number of these players, the proof at the beginning of the second half they managed to score a goal that changed the position to 2-1.

Arsenal themselves seem to be trying hard to equalize even though they only play with 10 people. But it was unlucky for Mikel Arteta’s squad, because in the middle of the two goalkeepers Bernd Leno received a red card from the referee.

As a result, the Away Team could not do much with just 9 players in the remaining time of the match, the score was 2-1 until the game ended.

However, that is not what coach Mikel Arteta regrets, he regretted a number of opportunities which ended in vain throughout the first half.

“I think with the way we played in the first half, we should be able to get three or four goals ahead. We were really dominant, we made a number of big chances that we couldn’t maximize to be goals,”

“Our shot hit the post, hit the bar, then the goalkeeper made a number of saves. Then the turning point was David Luiz’s red card.” said Arteta at

However, Arteta still praised his players who seemed to be struggling to equalize even with only 9 players.

“I told them I was very proud of their reaction in the second half, with the way they tried to fight back and try to win, it was incredible,”

“In the half time break, they were really excited and supported each other to come back as a team and try to win. Even with nine players, the way they keep trying is incredible.”
