Antonio Conte revealed he has turned down Real Madrid offer
Ahead of the match against Real Madrid, Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte revealed the fact that he had handled the Spanish La Liga giants.
As is known, Real Madrid and Inter Milan will face each other in the 3rd week of the European Champions League group stage match.
Inter Milan itself is currently handled by Antonio Conte, a former successful Juventus coach who has been linked with Real Madrid several times.
Especially in 2018, when Real Madrid kicked Julen Lopetegui from the manager’s seat. A few weeks before the tactic’s dismissal, Conte, who is currently unemployed after being sacked by Chelsea, was repeatedly linked with Los Blancos.
In October 2018, Lopetegui was completely sacked as manager, but Conte did not join. Until finally the club proposed to return their former coach, Zinedine Zidane.
In other words, the public assumed that the news of Real Madrid’s approach to Antonio Conte was just a rumor. But the Italian coach can confirm that it is true.
However, the concerned missed this rare opportunity because he felt that it would be very difficult to handle a big team in the middle of the season.
“There have been a few moments where I was very close to Real Madrid’s coaching status,”
“However, the season is already underway, it will be difficult to take over, the schedule has been made by the club and in a very sincere way, I chose to postpone,” said Conte as quoted by Italian Football.
Less than a year later, Antonio Conte finally accepted a proposal from Inter Milan. Now, the focus is completely on the Nerazzurri and the determination is to win titles at the end of the season.
“Now I am focused on Inter. I started the project here with a very strong sense of ownership and I feel good. We are creating something important.”
“It is true that in the past, there was an opportunity to become coach of Real Madrid, but maybe the time is not right. I want to continue this project here,” he concluded.
For information, these two teams have not won from the two group phase matches that have taken place.
