Andrea Pirlo disappointed with Juventus despite winning and qualified for the last 16
The success of Juventus in securing a ticket to the last 16 of the European Champions League this season has not satisfied the tactician Andrea Pirlo. Instead, he was disappointed with the overall performance of his players in yesterday’s match against Ferencvaros.
The 4th matchdays of the Champions League Group phase took place at dawn WIB (25/11).
Although more favored over the visitors, Juventus actually seemed to be in trouble from the first minute. They did appear dominant, but the solid defense applied by Ferencvaros made it difficult for Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends to create opportunities.
In fact, the visitors fell behind before the goal scored by Myrto Uzuni. Luckily, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata managed to reply to one goal each.
The 2-1 lead was maintained by the host Juventus until the match ended, thus they were confirmed to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
Indeed, currently Juve are three points behind the leaders, Barcelona, but the 9 points achieved by the Bianconneri are unlikely to be overtaken by Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kiev in the standings.
However, this success did not necessarily satisfy manager Andrea Pirlo, according to him, Juventus’ performance in this match was still far from expectations.
“I expected more from the players, but Ferencvaros was able to close the defenses. We have to try to move the ball forward and backward faster to expand the defense.”
“We were too slow in moving the ball. which makes it easier for them to defend, “Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia after the match ended.
Furthermore, Pirlo also praised Ferencvaros, who according to him had played very solidly from the start, especially in defense. Fortunately, the Juve players were not hooked by the “bait” provided by the visitors.
“Ferencvaros plays with a high defensive line and invites you to attack, but if not done properly the game will go according to their plan,” he added.
As for after this match, the Old Lady will return to action in the Serie A. They will meet Benevento on Sunday (29/11), of course the target is victory.
