Alex Marquez did not expect to get back on the second podium
Repsol Honda rider, Alex Marquez managed to get back on the second podium at the Aragon Grand Prix, Spain last weekend. To the media, Marc Marquez’s younger brother admitted that he did not expect this result at all.
The reason is, Alex started the race in a position that was not ideal, precisely in 11th position. Slowly, he managed to crawl up to 9th place on the first lap and kept going until he overtook Dovizioso for 6th place.
Alex also successfully passed several other riders such as Quartararo, Morbidelli, and Maverick Vinales until he finally won 2nd place on lap 14.
At that point, Alex did not seem broken, he was still stepping on the gas to catch up with the race leader, Alex Rins. But unfortunately, until the finish line the position of the two riders did not change.
In other words, Alex Marquez only managed to finish in 2nd place at the Aragon Grand Prix yesterday. However, this result is very good, especially before he was also on the second podium at the French GP.
“To be honest, I didn’t expect to get on the podium after starting from position 11. But on the first lap I attacked like crazy, as well as on the second lap. I tried my best in the early laps.”
“I had a hard time, but I was one of the riders who tried to defend the rear tire a little bit,” said the MotoGP 2020 debutant after the race.
Regardless of the final result of the race, Alex admitted that he was still thinking about his performance in the qualifying round.
“We worked very well during the race week. We showed a good rhythm during training,” he said.
“We have to improve our qualifying performance, but this time we are the fastest. It’s great to be on the podium again, twice in a row to finish second. We have to keep working like this and we will work harder next week,” he continued.
According to Alex, he dedicates these results to the Repsol Honda team, which went through a difficult period at the start of the season without a podium.
“I am very happy for Repsol Honda, two podiums in a row. I didn’t expect it to be like this, because the Alex you see now is not in qualification! I made a lot of mistakes.” he said via Fox Sports Asia.
