Achieving first podium in MotoGP, Alex has been comfortable with his ride since FP
Finally, Honda found their riders on the podium in MotoGP this season after going through 7 Series without success. It was Alex Marquez, the younger brother of Marc Marquez who successfully climbed the second podium at the French Grand Prix last weekend.
As is known, the 8th MotoGP series this season was held at the LeMans Circuit, France on Sunday (12/10) local time. In this race, Alex Marquez actually started the race in 18th position.
Slowly, the Repsol Honda rider continued to improve his position, maximizing the number of incidents that occurred, including the fall of Valentino Rossi.
Until in the end, when the race had only three laps left, Alex also managed to occupy the 2nd position. He successfully maintained this position until the last lap, finishing behind Danilo Petrucci as the fastest.
Actually, Alex Marquez’s brilliant performance was evident beforehand from the rider’s confidence. During Free Practice on Friday (09/10), the 24-year-old racer admitted that he was very comfortable with his riding.
Especially Michellin’s rain tires which are specially designed for wet tracks. Alex felt very confident and was finally getting the most out of it.
“I am quite fast on the wet track and I feel good with it. The tires are very different from the Moto2 and the Michelin rain tires give a lot of confidence,” said Alex, quoted by PaddockGP.
With this success, it means that Honda has ended their famine since the first series. For information, none of the Repsol Honda riders before the French series had managed to get on the podium.
This is due to the absence of the defending champion as well as the mainstay of the Japanese manufacturer, Marc Marquez. Alex’s sibling has been injured since the first series and has not returned to racing until now.
As for Alex Marquez himself this is the first podium in the highest class of the Grand Prix event.
Thanks to his first podium finish, Alex Marquez is now ranked 14th in the 2020 MotoGP standings. He has collected 47 points and is 17 points behind the 10th place occupant, Danilo Petrucci.
Meanwhile, the top position is still occupied by Petronas Yamaha SRT rider, Fabio Quartararo.
