A Fight Of Averages Between Peru And Denmark

June 16, 2018 is going to be special for football fans. The 2nd match in Group C is taking place and it is a fight between South America and Europe or Peru and Denmark, to be more specific. The action is happening at Mordovia Arena, Saransk. They both face each other in their first match of the tournament and it is interesting to see if Peru’s wait of 36 years will bear fruit or Denmark’s experience will steal the show.

Team Peru is making its first world cup appearance after 1982, which would be its fifth. Peru’s captain Paolo Guerrero’s inclusion in the team is doubtful since he is facing charges of testing positive for the banned cocaine. While the team does not have any stars apart from Jeffferson Farfan, from Lokomotiv Moscow, who plays forward and winger, he will be under pressure if Guerrero is barred from playing. The other forward who is performing well at the moment is Mexico Monarcas’ Raul Ruidiaz. Two defenders on whom Peru relies are Alberto Rodriguez and Miguel Trauco. Midfielders Renato Tapia and Andre Carrillo also played a major role in the qualifying rounds of the squad.

Most of the team is unknown and not recognized by many at the world cup. It is not sure whether it will work to the team’s advantage by throwing in some surprises or will they perform on an average basis.

On the other hand, Denmark has oodles of experience on its side. While they may not be a strong opponent, still they have senior players who know the game well. The team’s stars Christian Eriksen, midfielder and goal keeper Kasper Schmeichel are the pillars of the squad. Nicklas Bendtner has lots of potential to catch the Peruvians by surprise. He is not top class but he might step up to his position and score some crucial goals for his team.

None of the teams possesses the match winning game plays to reach a convincing score. Eriksen alone cannot lift up his team on his lone shoulders, but he will be a crucial player. It is difficult to predict a winner as such, and a draw seems most likely. Though Denmark is the favorite, football is after all a sport and anything can happen.

Nevertheless, a win at this stage will be a morale boosting one for either of the teams. Whoever wins would be in a high spirit for the remaining 2 matches and push themselves further to qualify.
