2013 was the year of Lionel Messi turned down Real Madrid’s offer!
Argentine mega star Lionel Messi has been one of Barcelona’s main frontmen for the last 16 years or so. That said, he is the main icon of the Catalan club.
This fact seems to block the way for Real Madrid to recruit Messi. However, Los Blancos certainly did not just fly the white flag, where they had attempted to transfer Messi to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013.
This claim was conveyed by Gianluca di Marzio as a well-known Italian journalist. To Marca, Marzio revealed that Lionel Messi had flatly refused the offer made by Real Madrid at that time.
At that time, Real Madrid was actually planning to build a new stadium, but President Florentino Perez was so desperate to bring La Pulga. In the end, the club made a bid of 250 million Euros to make Messi the “Traitor” el Clasico.
